Bath Bombs!

Bath Bombs!

They are without a doubt one of my favorite things to make, and my absolute favorite to use! There’s nothing to me more relaxing than ending a day with a nice warm soak in the tub with a bath bomb. Let’s take a minute to learn just why it is so good for our mental health and relaxation. The ingredients in my bath bombs are baking soda, citric acid, kaolin clay, shea butter, essential oils, and in some, oatmeal.

I’ll start with aromatherapy! I’m a believer, but it isn’t rocket science to understand that what smells nice to us can lighten our mood. Whether it’s lavender or citrus, or maybe even my Granma’s fruit cake, we can be either calmed or energized based on the scent we experience. So, it’s no wonder that soaking in a tub of a happy scent is a great choice for ending the day on a pleasant note. Adding quality ingredients along with the scent gives you the perfect blend of happy and healthy.

Baking soda is well known for its versatility, from scrubbing the kitchen sink to soaking our sensitive skin in the bathroom tub. Its antifungal properties can be helpful against issues with yeast infections and nail fungus. It’s known to sooth itchy skin related to psoriasis and eczema, as well as helping to calm skin rashes caused by poison oak, chickenpox, and shingles! Colloidal oatmeal has many of the same benefits, so adding it to the mix can make it even more soothing for your skin.

Kaolin clay helps to exfoliate, and is also a natural cleanser. Citric acid provides a gentle fizz that is relaxing enough on its own, but also is an exfoliant and helps regenerate and repair broken skin cells. We could stop there, because that’s enough reason to use the bath bomb! But we’ll keep going, because next is shea butter. This is where SMI bombs tend to break apart from the crowd of other bath bombs. This shea butter is in a liquid form that is water soluble. It leaves your skin smooth and moisturized without leaving your bathtub greasy. It’s a win-win:)
